Hiring the Chapter House Choir
The Chapter House Choir is one of the foremost amateur chamber choirs in the country. For many years the choir’s Carols by Candlelight concerts have been a highlight of Christmas music in York, and have always been sold out within hours of tickets becoming available. In addition, the choir has often been broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and Radio 2, and in 2012 performed at an annual conference of British Choral Directors who described the choir as a “star chamber choir”.
We offer opportunities for The Chapter House Choir to perform at events such as dinners, weddings and corporate events where high quality musical performance can enhance the overall experience for guests. Advance notice of 6-12 months is usually needed in order to fit the event into the choir’s schedule. The choir offers three levels of performance to suit the requirements of the event and audience.
Hire the Choir – Bronze
A group of at least 8 choir members, with a minimum of two singers per voice (soprano, alto, tenor, bass), would perform pieces chosen with the client from the choir’s existing repertoire. For instance, for a Christmas event this would include well known carols which could be agreed beforehand with the event organiser or could be left to the choir to choose. The choir would be conducted by a senior choir member.
The handbell ringers (on their own) are also included in the bronze category, with a group of typically four to eight choir members conducted by the leader of the handbell team.
Hire the Choir – Silver
A group of at least 12 choir members, with a minimum of three singers per voice (soprano, alto, tenor, bass), would perform a mixture of pieces from the choir’s existing repertoire plus a small number of other pieces chosen in discussion with the event organiser. For instance, for a wedding this could include well known pieces appropriate to the event plus others chosen by the bride and groom. The choir would be conducted by a senior choir member.
Hire the Choir – Gold
A group of at least 20 choir members, with a minimum of 4 singers per voice, (soprano, alto, tenor, bass), would perform pieces chosen in discussion with the event organiser. The choir would be conducted by the choir’s Musical Director. For an additional cost, a short four part choral piece could be commissioned to a text to be agreed with the event organisers. For instance, for a corporate event, a piece could be commissioned to celebrate a landmark event for the organization.
