CONCERTS 2011 - 2012 SEASON

Formed in 1965 by a group of Minster Songmen and their wives to raise funds for the Minster, the Chapter House Choir was soon established as one of the country’s leading amateur chamber choirs. They have developed a varied and challenging repertoire, and are committed to the performance of new music, with further commissions promised by Andrew Bunney for Christmas this year and by Bob Chilcott for June 2012 Our director of music is Stephen Williams.

Carols by Candlelight

American choral works of the 20th and 21st century. Eric Whitacre’s Sleep was recently performed by a ‘virtual’ choir of 2000 singers in 58 countries.

We are thrilled to be giving the world premiere of a new 8 part unaccompanied work commissioned by the choir and written by Bob Chilcott. The concert also includes his infectious African-influenced, The Making of the Drum.

Victoria - Requiem 400th Anniversary

Written in 1603 in memory of the Empress Maria, this magnificent setting was also Victoria’s final work before his death in 1611. It is a work of great simplicity and beauty that marks the pinnacle of the Spanish Renaissance tradition. The programme also includes: Ave Regina Caelorum, O Vos Omnes and Super Flumina Babylonis |
